Las Vegas Side Trips

Many side trips are possible off the Strip, even if Vegas is new to you. Las Vegas is synonymous with gambling and glitz. However there are many other things to do in Sin City. Last week we discussed some of the lesser known gems located just outside of Las Vegas Strip.

Jeff German

German has been podcasting for the last few decades. He also wrote a series about organized crime called "Mobbed Up. The Fight For Vegas." It was produced in part by the Review-Journal, and the Mob Museum. The series covered the many shady characters that populated Las Vegas Valley in 1980s and 1970s.

His reporting revealed political corruption as well as three decades of organized criminal activity in Las Vegas. Most notable, he broke news of the 2017 mass shooting which saw more than 60 victims and injured. He also wrote a true crime book about the mob connections in the area. In 1998, he broke the story of Ted Binion's assassination. He also worked as a CNN analyst on Binion.

Lance Lipinsky is an American pianist and writer. He grew up Texas and moved to Las Vegas in order to recreate his musical success. He began to write original material and honed his skills as a live entertainer while in Vegas. At 17 he was discovered at the Las Vegas strip and began his professional career.

Lipinsky descends from the legends Charlie Rich and Fats Domino. His showmanship is high-energy and he plays 60s pop and classic Country. He also encourages audience participation.

Velveteen Rabbit

The Velveteen Rabbit is originally from Philadelphia and is a colourful and captivating mix of music, mime, and stage magic. Nana, the puppet's nurse, stands at 10 feet tall. The other adult characters are only visible in shadow. The show runs Monday through Sat from 7 p.m. - 1 a.m.

The musical adaptation of the 1922 children's classic "The Velveteen Rabbit" is a two-act work featuring choreography by K. T. Nelson and a stellar cast of dancers. The signature style of the 25-year-old company includes elements from traditional European dance and Asian Bunraku. If you are in the area, this production is a must-see.

Encore Boston Harbor

The Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, Massachusetts, is close to the Logan International Airport and many colleges and universities. It can be seen from all major roads as the towering structure towers over Mystic. It's a nice spot to spend a last-minute weekend in Boston.

Encore Boston Harbor's 600 guestrooms are decorated in neutral tones and feature airy finishes. Some rooms offer views of Boston Harbor or the skyline. The room type determines the price, which can range from $339 to $1099 per night.
